At Osceola County EMS, we provide 24/7 advanced life support ambulance services to all of Osceola County. Our crews are composed of a combination of emergency medical technicians, paramedic, and critical care paramedics. Learn more about their roles below!
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are the first healthcare providers you’ll often see in a medical emergency. In Michigan, EMTs complete specialized training and national testing to earn their license. They provide life-saving care such as CPR, controlling bleeding, giving oxygen, and helping patients breathe, while also offering comfort and reassurance during stressful moments. EMTs work on ambulances, respond to 911 calls, and safely transport patients to hospitals, serving as a vital link between the community and emergency medical care.
Paramedics are the most advanced pre-hospital providers in the emergency medical system. In Michigan, paramedics complete extensive college-level education, clinical training, and national testing to earn their license. They can provide all the life-saving care EMTs do, but with additional skills such as starting IVs, giving a wide range of medications, interpreting heart rhythms, and using advanced airway and cardiac equipment. Paramedics respond to the most critical emergencies, bring hospital-level treatments directly to the scene, and ensure patients receive the highest level of care on the way to the hospital.
Critical Care Paramedics are highly trained paramedics who specialize in caring for the sickest and most complex patients during transport between hospitals. They complete extensive advanced education and certification beyond the paramedic level, focusing on critical care medicine, ventilator management, IV medication drips, advanced cardiac support, and specialized monitoring equipment. These providers bring intensive care skills to the ambulance, allowing patients who need treatments usually found only in an ICU to be safely transported. Critical Care Paramedics are an essential link in making sure patients receive uninterrupted, hospital-level care while on the move.
